SKUTTA

Grant Awarded: $10,000

About

SKUTTA means to strut and getting dressed up to impress, a Creole word developed and used around the Kimberley. SKUTTA proposed creating an outdoor runway performance event to celebrate the artistic talents of the Kimberley region and its many Indigenous communities plus a professional development and capacity building outreach workshop program. Funds would have been used to provide employment and creative professional development in the communities across the Kimberley. With a view to building a sustainable model to increase regional capacity for real pathway opportunities for First Nations Kimberley creatives in fashion and creative events.

Impact

This project has yet to come to full fruition, however, it is an accolade in itself to be selected into the final 6 through the competitive process run by our Grants Assessment Panel. Only projects considered to be compelling, innovative and artistically rigorous enough make it to this stage! Each presenting finalist is given pitch training and support and although they did not win a major grant they did get to walk away with $10,000 of un-tied funding towards their practice or project! Not to mention having had great exposure to our arts industry leading panel members and many local small and large philanthropic arts funders.
