REVIVIFICATION

Grant Awarded: $100,000

About

Revivification proposes to immortalise the great composer “Alvin Lucier”, giving him new life by creating his ‘surrogate performer’, a living entity, biologically connected to him, that would keep on creating art, as an artwork long after his death. Revivification encompasses and challenges all faculties of human endeavour. It lies deep within our past and proposes scenarios of our future using today’s cutting-edge technology. It celebrates the creativity that is within us while asking what it means to be human in the 21st century. Revivification is a multi-layered project and targets diverse audiences with interests in technology, innovation, science, ethics, futurism, sound, music and robotics - all in the context of art.

Impact

The project is in process and the artists are currently trialling the graphic user interface for the ‘life support’ chip as well as developing an automated ‘feeding’ system needed for maintaining a living neural network. Here the team have collaborated with a German Bio-Engineer and are using his designs in a test case before their commercialisation. The exhibition is planned at AGWA in early 2025 and will draw international interest particularly from global practitioners in this space as Guy and his team look to create an open-source neuroscience platform.
